Who We Are

The purpose of this blog is to share the inspiring stories of the refugees that we have met in Jakarta and to be honest, we hope to solicit your financial support. To show that your donations are being used properly we update the blog with what we are doing. On this page, we publish our photos and biographies to give assurance that any financial donations will be 100% used for the welfare of the refugees in Jakarta. Many of us are Expats and are here only for 2 to 4 years. Anyone is welcome to join and contribute to our efforts.

Below are some of us who are now or have been involved in this effort:

Jeff And Suzanna Davidson: We moved to Jakarta, Indonesia in 2016 for Jeff's job with an oil and gas company. Prior to Jakarta we lived in Lagos, Nigeria for 4.5 years. We have seen a great deal of suffering of our brothers and sisters in the nations where we have lived the last 8 years. We realize that it is impossible to help everyone, but we can and have been able to make a difference in the lives of a few of our brothers and sisters. If you would like to help support our efforts, please feel free to contact us.

DEREK and CATHY We moved to Indonesia with our five children in 2016. Before moving to Jakarta, we were watching the refugee crisis unfold throughout the world and wishing there were some way we could offer assistance to any of the 60,000,000 refugees. When we learned that there were roughly 14,000 refugees living in Indonesia waiting for resettlement to another country, we were hopeful that we could find a way to be involved. We met some refugees from Iran through our church that have since become very dear friends. Cathy also began volunteering weekly as a teacher of a Life Skills class at two different refugee schools in Jakarta, and during the last 18 months has taught almost 100 students over several classes. We've watched as these new friends struggle to maintain life here as they are legally not permitted to have jobs in Indonesia to support themselves. They are independent and resilient and resourceful, yet they still need assistance to meet their daily needs. It is difficult for them to set aside their pride and depend on others' donations to support their lives. We, along with other friends, have offered emotional and monetary support to several refugees throughout the community, but we know that our resources are limited. We are hoping that by sharing this blog, others will be able assist in supporting the daily lives of these men, women and children. (In June 2019, The Hables have left Indonesia for their next assignment)

Jay and Sherri Anderson arrived in Jakarta in 2017. Shelly works with the Somali women and children refugees. (The Andersons left Indonesia for their next assignment in June 2019)
